3. Sugar
If you eat a high sugar diet, then it is likely that you will have higher blood pressure. This is the result of inflammation that can be caused by sugar in the diet and which can affect the blood vessels, thereby making it harder for blood to make it around the body.
At the same time, if you consume too much sugar, this can also cause the blood to become thicker simply as a result of the glucose content.
Eventually, consuming a diet that is very high in sugar can actually lead to insulin insensitivity, prediabetes, and eventually, of course, diabetes itself.
The problem here is that many of us consume a diet high in sugar – as it is added to a large number of different food items that we eat every day. It was previously thought that fat was the biggest culprit for raising blood pressure but now we know that sugar has actually been the ‘silent killer’ all along! If you suffer from high blood pressure, you should try to avoid excessive sugar intake.
