2. Organ Meats
If you are at risk for developing gout or if you have gout, one food that you need to avoid completely are organ meats. This type of meat has a very high level of purines, which means that they can add more uric acid to the body, which in turn can lead to gout. In fact, organ meats which are known as offal, contain more purines than any other food that a person eats. Some of the most common types of offal in the diet include the brain, heart, liver, and a mixture that is called pate.
Studies that are currently available do not differentiate between the intake of offal and conventional meat. This means that the recommendation has to be the same. Since there is a strong correlation between the intake of meat and gout, based simply on the amount of purine that is found in it, you should limit or avoid eating organ meats as well as many red types of meat.
