2. Nuts & Seeds
The first type of food that we will discuss that you should avoid if you have diverticulitis is the nuts and seeds category. Foods that have nuts in them or foods that contain seeds or have tough skins that you eat can all be very hard on your intestines and cause a flare-up.
Obviously, that means that you want to avoid consuming nuts by themselves, but you also want to avoid things like popcorn, raw fruits and vegetables if they have the skins on them, sesame seeds, and a lot more. If you remove the skins beforehand on fruits and vegetables – such as baked potatoes and apples – then these are probably okay choices.
However, keep in mind that many of those fruits and vegetables have seeds inside, and if you consume them you’re going to be no better off than if you had left the skin intact.
