3. Broccoli
Broccoli is one vegetable you should avoid completely. For most people, broccoli and foods like it are part of a recommended healthy diet. That’s because broccoli has some pretty big health benefits. But for people with diverticulitis, you have to eliminate gassy vegetables like broccoli because they stimulate the digestive tract.
Some of the other vegetables that you will want to avoid include beets, cauliflower, squash, Brussels sprouts, and kale. However, broccoli is particularly destructive as it causes the stool to become loose for most people but can do exactly the opposite people that have diverticulitis.
The foods that can trigger a flare-up of diverticulitis can vary from person to person, but broccoli is a widely reported problem among most with this disease. If you decide to try broccoli and see if you can handle it, make sure that you steam or boil it. The symptoms are worse if you eat it raw.
