3. Trouble Swallowing
Another sign that your sore throat may be caused by the strep bacteria is if you have trouble swallowing. When infected with bacteria, the throat can become quite inflamed. This can make it quite difficult to swallow anything, including your own saliva. As the tonsils become inflamed, it makes it more difficult for things to pass through. This can make it tough to take in liquids and food.
