3. Warm Compress
If you are suffering with kidney stones, then you may find that you experience frequent sharp pains around the abdominal area. This can be very unpleasant but fortunately there are some effective treatments that can help with this.
One is to use a warm compress. A hot water bottle for instance can help to null the pain and allow you to relax more. Heat encourages the flow of blood to an area and also encourages the relaxation of muscles. What’s more, is that a warm compress can help to encourage urination, which as we have previously discussed can help to encourage you to pass the stones.
If you don’t have a hot water bottle, then an alternative option is to use a ‘rice sock’.
This is a home made warm compress which involves taking a sock and filling it with rice. You then tie a knot in the end to keep the rice trapped in and place the sock in the microwave on a medium-high heat. This will heat up the rice and you can then hold it against your stomach.
Finally, try taking a warm bath. This is even more effective in dulling pain, in encouraging the relaxation of all the surrounding muscles and of triggering the need to urinate.
