3. Muscle Ache
While the tiredness is more commonly associated with younger sufferers, the older generation will often experience an intense muscle soreness which can likewise make it difficult to go about their usual activities. This muscle soreness may be similar to the muscle ache that is often associated with flu and other infections. Patients also describe it as being similar to the way that muscles often feel after an intense workout or a very long walk.
This in turn can make the symptom of muscle pain difficult to spot. And when you consider that this condition is rarer in older adults, it becomes generally difficult to diagnose. Many adults will not entertain the idea of having contracted the ‘kissing disease’ – especially if they are in a relationship!
For these reasons, it is important to look out for the other symptoms of mono and never to rule this out as a possibility!
