16 Essential Remedies to Stop Hiccups in No Time

New Articles: Wellness March 5, 2018

Normally, hiccups area nothing to worry about. This is a transient (temporary) condition that is simply caused by spasms in the diaphragm. The diaphragm of course is the sheet of muscle that leaves just below the lungs at the top of the abdominal cavity. Its job is to contract and thereby push air in and out of the lungs.

When this starts to spasm, this can cause the lungs to suddenly fill and empty, and that in turn is what results in what we know as hiccupping. And though it’s not usually a sign of anything dangerous, it is nevertheless highly frustrating and irritating. Therefore, you might find yourself looking for cures and ways that you can put an end to the problem as quickly as possible. In this post, you’ll discover a whole host of different methods that you can use to quickly cure the hiccups – and you should find that any of them can help you to get back to your usual self quickly!

1. Surprise

One of the most popular and well-known options for getting rid of the hiccups is to get a sudden shock or surprise. This works because it causes a sudden rush of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. That in turn causes an increase in your heart rate and a sudden inhalation of air. In short, your sympathetic nervous system overtakes your breathing ready to trigger the fight or flight response. All this means that you can instantly get back control of your breathing in many cases.

This works better for some people than for others. And of course, it’s also not effective as a trick you can use on your own! You’re going to need someone around to help and you need to ensure this is someone that you can trust… lest they get a little bit too carried away with it!
