3. Diarrhea
Just as vomiting is the body’s way of ridding itself of bacteria or toxins, a loosening of the stools and frequent, watery bowel movements can help your body purge itself. It may convenient to run to the bathroom frequently, so it is worthwhile to stay at home if you are suffering from diarrhea caused by food poisoning.
Like vomiting, diarrhea can rob the body of fluids and essential electrolytes. Keep drinking fluids, even if you don’t feel like eating, and eat nutritious foods such as soup. Even if they seem to come right out the other end, consuming fluids makes the purge process faster and more efficient, so keep consuming healthy drinks and plenty of water.
Replace this fluid loss with liquids that are rich in electrolytes, such as potassium and sodium that can keep the system balanced. Realize that this phase shouldn’t last more than a few days.
