21 Low-Sodium Food Ideas to Add in Your Diet

New Articles: Nutrition March 13, 2018

Most people eat far more sodium than they need, and this can lead to health issues like high blood pressure. Sodium is a mineral that’s found naturally in many foods, and it’s also added to foods. A low-sodium diet can help prevent heart problems and maintain heart health. Starting on a low-sodium diet means a lot more than just throwing out the saltshaker.

You’ve got to do a whole lot more than that! You’ve got to avoid a lot of foods, check the sodium content of frozen meals, use fresh ingredients, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, look for seasoning blends with no salt, avoid convenience foods, and a whole lot more. Let’s look at 21 low-sodium food ideas to add to your diet. We could list out all the stuff you’re not supposed to eat, but we thought it’d be more fun to list a lot of foods you can add in your diet.

1. Grass-Fed Beef

There is around 45 mg of sodium in a regular grass-fed beef patty. This makes it a low sodium food that can be added to your diet if you are trying to lower your sodium intake. While red meat often gets a bad rap, there are some benefits of eating small amounts of red meat. Any time that you eat red meat it is important to make sure that it is organic and grass-fed.

All other types of red meat can contain harmful chemicals and antibiotics that come from the cow’s feed. Organic, grass-fed beef contains omega 3 fatty acids that can help to reduce the amount of inflammation you may be experiencing. It also has conjugated linoleic acid, which may have cancer-fighting effects. Eating small amounts of grass-fed beef can help improve blood sugar levels, fight diabetes, and fight off heart disease and cancer.
