Did you know that aloe vera is also a very effective preservative? That means that it can help you to keep your food from going moldy and help it to stay edible for longer. One study conducted by the University of Miguel Hernandez in Alicante, Spain, put this theory to the test by using an aloe vera spread in order to preserve some grapes. What they found was that the grapes lasted 28 more days than they normally would!
This is significant because it means that in theory, you could add some aloe to the fruit in your bowl and see it last much longer!
It’s also significant because we all-too-often rely on other forms of preservatives that make our food significantly less healthy. For instance, omega 6 fatty acid is often used in this way, as are trans fats and salt. If we could switch to using aloe vera more often in more food, then potentially this could result in all our food being that little bit better for us!
