5. Cabbage
Cabbage is another food that you should avoid if you have diverticulitis. Cabbage can be very irritating to your digestive system, particularly because of the rough texture of the vegetable, but it is also a bad idea because it contains a great deal of fiber. Both of these contribute to inflammation in the gut because the body has a hard time breaking it down.
You’re going to find yourself feeling bad throughout the day if you eat cabbage, and it is going to cause a great deal of gas as well. Not everyone with diverticulitis responds negatively to cabbage, but most do, and it should probably be avoided unless you know that it is not going to cause you problems.
Bloating, gassy buildup, and abdominal pain are all common things reported after someone with diverticulitis eats cabbage. It’s just not worth the potential problems.
