4. Spicy Foods
If you have been to your doctor to discuss your diverticulitis, then it is likely that you already know that you should avoid spicy foods. Spicy foods can cause big flare-ups when it comes to diverticulitis, and that is unfortunate because many people love to eat spicily.
Red chili, Indian food, and even some Chinese food can cause digestive issues to worsen with diverticulitis. That’s because spicy food will inflame your digestive system and cause irritation. Symptoms that usually occur after eating this type of food include vomiting, diarrhea, and many other digestive symptoms; the more spicy food that you eat, the more these symptoms are going to worsen.
Some people are able to eat very small amounts of spicy food once a week or so. However, you will have to experiment using tiny amounts of food to determine how you will respond.
