4. Sudden Acute Pain
Gout can cause a person to suffer from long term discomfort. However, it can also cause a person to experience sudden acute pain. Most often, a person who suffers from gout will experience this type of pain in the toes, feet, and in the legs. The pain may be felt in any part of the lower extremities. This sudden onset of pain can be excruciating and may even leave a person crippled until it begins to go away.
When sudden acute pain occurs the best thing that you can do is to apply a cold compress to the area. This can help reduce the swelling and may even numb the pain for a bit. It is also a good idea to use a prescribed treatment or drug from your doctor. Once the pain has subsided it is a good idea to make sure that you discuss these onsets of acute pain with your doctor so a long term solution can be determined.
