5. Peeling Skin
One of the other unpleasant side effects that a person may experience from gout is that the swelling that is caused by the disease can start to cause further damage. One of the side effects of gout is the skin peeling. As the skin starts to peel it may become dry, flaky, itchy, and irritated. This can become quite painful on top of the joint pain that you are experiencing.
When gout is left untreated, the skin may even start to crack and bleed as well. This can become really bothersome and is a side effect that gout sufferers will have to deal with. It is best to use a topical lotion on the skin and cover it with a dry bandage when this occurs. It is also a good idea to discuss your skin care with your doctor as their may be a lotion or ointment that can be prescribed to help you with this symptom.
