5. Social Skills
Something else that you will notice with children with autism is that they often have severe trouble when it comes to social skills. The first thing that you need to know is the social skills develop at different paces for different children.
Just because a child does not have as advanced social skills as the child of nearly the same age down the street does not mean that they have autism. But it definitely should be something that you look at carefully. One of the signs that you should be looking for is one that we have already discussed – the poor eye contact sign.
In addition, children with autism will rarely smile at people. Both of these can contribute to the signs that lead up to having poor social skills. Children with autism often have these poor social skills as well as poor communication skills.
