4. Orthostatic hypotension
Even if this name sounds strange and cryptic, we all have experienced some level of orthostatic hypotension or dizziness in our lives. The expression refers to the sudden dizziness we feel when we are lying down and suddenly get up. When we stand, we need the heart to pump our blood more strongly so it gets all the way up to our heads.
However, our heart needs a second to adjust, so for a few moments, we might not have enough blood in our brains, hence the dizziness. In more severe cases, we can stumble or faint due to the insufficiency of blood flow in our brains. When we are dehydrated, our blood pressure is compromised, and we are more likely to experience strong orthostatic hypotension.
Remember that this phenomenon is quite normal, so don’t get scared if you feel dizzy after you suddenly stand up, but if it happens often or very intensely, try drinking some water.
