5. Bleeding
You also may have the tendency to bleed more often when you have leukemia. Previously, we mentioned bruising and the fact that when it happens more often than normal it may be a sign of leukemia – or especially if it happens in places where you don’t expect a bruise to develop such as on the back.
But bleeding works by the same mechanism and it happens for the same reason the bruising happens with leukemia. People with leukemia bleed more than normal people. Again, this may be difficult to tell unless you are already familiar with how your body clots. But normal blood clotting happens very quickly.
If you get cut and your bleeding does not stop within a reasonable amount of time, then it’s time to talk to your doctor. But people with leukemia also often bleed from places where injuries did not occur such as their nose or gums.
