4. Coconut
Coconut is a trendy health food right now and it certainly deserves all the positive press it gets.
Coconut is packed with goodness. The oil includes what is known as ‘MCT’ which is medium chained triglycerides. These fats travel straight to the liver where they encourage the production of ketones – a source of energy that the brain and body can use instead of glucose.
At the same time, coconuts also contain a lot of electrolytes, making them great for hydration and for replenishing that which is lost during intense exercise and sweating.
But coconut also has the significant advantage of being useful in baking as an alternative to gluten. For instance, you can make coconut macaroons which are a delicious dessert that is just fine for those with gluten sensitivities!
