5. Green Tea
As with any form of inflammation, applying a cool pack to the area can help to bring down swelling and soothe any discomfort. However, while this is true, applying ice to your eye can be a bad idea and is actually quite uncomfortable.
What is a better substitute then is to simply apply a cool tea bag on top of your eye – and this is why you’ll often find them doing this in spas. Better yet, if you use green tea – something like matcha green tea – then you’ll benefit from bioflavonoids. These can help to further reduce inflammation and irritation. What’s more, is that they are highly antibacterial and can thereby help to prevent the bacteria from spreading elsewhere. This is one of the most relaxing and therapeutic ways to treat your eyes and offers a lot of benefits that you can’t get in other ways.
Of course, you can combine your efforts here too. For instance, you can try applying a little oil to your eyelids and then using the green tea bags.
Note that while you’re going to be using the teabags cold, of course, you do want to use hot water first when you steep them. This will help to loosen the tea and encourage the nutrients to disperse. If you use cold water, then the leaves will hold onto all that good and you won’t benefit from it!
