7. A scratchy sensation
Not only can pink eye cause your eyes to feel itchy, but it can also make them feel scratchy. This sensation feels as if your eyes have been scratched by something, such as a renegade eyelash that has gotten trapped in your eye or like something has actually scratched the surface of your eye. As with all symptoms associated with pink eye, in the early stages, the scratching sensation might be mild; but, as the condition worsens – which it tends to do quickly – you will likely notice that the scratchy feeling becomes more intense. In fact, the scratchy sensation can become so severe that you might wonder if you have somehow done damage to your eye. This symptom is the result of the inflamed conjunctiva rubbing against the eyelid and the eyeball itself. When this portion of the eye becomes inflamed, it produces a scratchy feeling.
