3. Dark Chocolate
When you first start going low carb, you are going to find that you miss certain foods more than others. And it will come as no surprise to learn that chocolate is one of the things that people tend to miss the most.
Chocolate is high in sugar though – a very simple sugar – and this has a tendency to spike the blood sugar and to increase insulin production. Chocolate is also high in calories, it is sweet and addictive and it is generally not something that you should be eating in high quantities if you have any interest in health or weight loss.
Dark chocolate though is different. If you find 90% dark chocolate without added sugar, then it’s actually relatively low in carbs. It’s also a great source of a whole ton of different beneficial nutrients. Dark chocolate is rich in polyphenols for instance, including the highly beneficial -epicatechin. This has been shown to increase muscle mass, boost brainpower, and increase energy levels!
