4 Anxiety
High blood pressure can cause the symptoms of stress and anxiety.
The reason for this is that our heart rate is one of the key signals linked with our vagus nerve and sympathetic nervous systems. When our heart rate is higher or working harder in general, the body sees this as a sign of danger.
The result is that it responds by releasing stress hormones and neurotransmitters such as cortisol, adrenaline, norepinephrine, etc.
Ironically, these chemicals can then actually trigger the release of more stress, causing something of a vicious cycle.
