5. Red Meat
When it comes to eating meat in general, it is a good idea to cut at least some of it out of your diet. When it comes down to it, all types of meat are high in levels of purine. These high levels of purine can cause a gout attack. Eating a lot of meat can also increase your chances of developing gout. When it comes to choosing meat to eat, eating white meat such as chicken or pork is better than indulging in red meat.
While it is not necessary to cut red meat entirely out of your diet, it is best to limit the amount that you eat. You will want to choose a different type of meat for the majority of your meals. However, it is okay to indulge in red meat a couple of times a week or so if you are not having any symptoms of gout at the time. If you are having a flare-up, avoiding red meat altogether is recommended.
