7. Crying
Shedding tears can be a healthy and necessary way of expressing emotions, but it can lead to eye twitching afterward. If you are aware of having wept recently, at least the eye twitching doesn’t have a mysterious cause. When we cry, our eyes squint and may be rubbed repeatedly to the point where they eyes may start to twitch on their own.
Depending on how much you wept, you may have shed enough salt water from your system to be dehydrated, and dehydration is a main cause of spontaneous eye movement.
However, crying may be less likely to cause your eyes to jerk suddenly than stress, which releases hormones that affect the muscles. Crying it out as a result of the stress may be less likely to trigger eye twitching than the stress itself. When in doubt, cry it out.
